My Raspberry Pi can do WHAT?!

Here at Boolean Girl, we use our Raspberry Pi’s to run a program called Scratch, to teach basic computer programming skills. However, there are many, many more cool things that can be done on these tiny yet powerful computers!

  1. Surf the Internet – Pi’s have the ability to have a web browser and the capability to surf the web! It has been rumored that both Firefox OS, and the backbone behind Google Chrome, Chromium, are both available for download on the Pi.
  2. Minecraft- As many girls who use our Pi’s discover, Minecraft can be downloaded and played as well.
  3. Hook up to your television- If you have a Raspberry Pi at home, you can easily hook it up so that the screen displays on the television… Sounds like an intense game of Minecraft to us.
  4. Control a robotic arm- This one is a little complicated, but very cool! Here is a link to check out how it works. The feature begins on page 9.
  5. Make your own case- Using an online search, you can find plenty of tutorials on how to make a case for your Raspberry Pi. If you’re feeling creative, try without a tutorial first using construction paper and your imagination.
  6. Track animals- The Pi is used to track endangered animals like rhinos in Africa! Poachers kill rhinos for their horns, so advocates for the protection of endangered species have found a way to use the Pi’s to keep track of their migration habits.

So, now you know what else the Raspberry Pi can do! The possibilities are seemingly endless.
