Saturday STEM Classes for Kids

Saturday mornings from 9am-12pm

LOCATION: Arlington Mill Community Center

Sign up now for our Fall Clubhouse sessions! Our Clubhouses are led by our rockstar STEM instructors, many of whom are female high school and college students. These instructors are passionate teachers and mentors for young girls and underrepresented youth. Children will receive coding and electronics instruction, get hands-on time to develop their own creative projects, and receive a lesson in "digital wellness" to promote responsible choices on computing devices.

All computer equipment is supplied by Boolean Girl. Children don't need to bring anything, except their creativity! This is a drop-off event (parents are not expected to stay for the duration, but are welcome at any time, of course). All experience levels are welcome.

The cost is $25 per session. Clubhouse-in-a-Day single sessions are free for first-time students and Girl Scouts. Scholarships are available for families in need.

The Clubhouse-in-a-Day events are designed for one time attendance as we will repeat the same content each week.

The Elementary and Middle School Clubhouse Sessions are 3 or 4 weeks working on a single project/topic. It is always ok to miss one but you should try to attend all the club meetings in a block.

Elementary School Clubhouses

Session 1

October: 3, 10, 17

During this session students will be coding in Scratch, creating games and completing challenges.

Children will receive coding and electronics instruction, get hands-on time to develop their own creative projects, and receive a lesson in "digital wellness" to promote responsible choices on computing devices.

Session 2

October: 24, 31

November 7, 14

This session will empower students to build an electronic pet. They will start with a virtual pet, like a tamagotchi, coded on a micro:bit. Then they design and build an electronic pet. We use motors to make things move like a tail that wags and may add sensors like the range sensor to make the tail wag as you approach.

At the end of the session students may bring home the crafted components of their virtual pet and their code, but will not be able to bring home the micro:bits/motors/sensors/legos.
